Southampton Town code enforcement slaps landlord with 50 violations at six houses

Thank you Code Enforcement!!! I'm sorry but the man is running a business by breaking the rules and disrupting neighborhoods. Until any one of you "supporters" has to live next door, across the street, down the road, or around the corner from one of these overfilled houses you have no right to object. North Sea is packed with these situations and I'm glad to see the Town has been taking enforcement seriously. They are chippping away at it and it is helping.

Maybe Mr. Distefano can use whatever influence he has in Town Hall to change the zoning to allow rooming houses i n his neighborhood. We don't don't want them here.

No jail time, fine for Hults after guilty plea; grand jury does not indict McGintee

I actually kind of feel bad for Hults. In truth, he absolutely did not, in any way, have the necessary qualifications for the job but he was McGintee's personal choice for the appointment. THe question is WHY? I looks like he just did whatever that slime ball McGintee told him to do. Hmmm. And in the end, just as with all successful criminal king pins, he (McGintee) slithered away from prosecution because HE never committed the actual fraud. I bet all you East Hampton taxpayers who voted for that (retired cop) are kicking yourselves now. That was one expensive reign you'r going to be paying for, for a long time to come." Jun 21, 10 6:12 PM

This is what happens when you put townies in charge of multi-million dollar corporations. I blame the small town Democratic party for this one. And just what were McGintee's educational qualifications anyway? But he certainly knew enough about the law (and hired Rudy Guiliani's firm to defend him against the DA's inquiries) to avoid getting nailed for improper/illegal actions. The real pity is the fallout and consequences to the community from all that incompetentence." Jun 22, 10 12:03 PM

Southampton Village Police investigation discovers porn on department computers

Littleplans, actually Arthur Schucht made $151,563 in 2009 before "moving on". Amy Hertling, the police dispatcher, who resigned due to a "scheduling conflict" over her kids, made $82+K last year. Hmmm, how odd. Do you know anyone who gives up an $82K because they can't get a babysitter? What are the odds her "scheduling conflict" gets resolved after this case is closed and she reappears on the public payroll?

Whatever the real story is here, for the money the police union forces out of the taxpayers in this town, there is NO excuse for anything less than stellar and totally professional behavior (on the job or off)" Jul 7, 10 7:06 PM

Southampton Village Police sergeant suspended

Median HHI in Southampton, as in most of the east end towns is much less than the Suffolk median. Somewhere in the mid 50's, not 85K. If the Village & Town cops are being paid so very generously because of all the risk they face everyday....well then, I suggest they should be making what city cops make and vice versa. Then they might be somewhat justified in having all those second jobs and private businesses (that never intrude on their scheduled work hours, cough)" Jul 22, 10 9:36 AM

ZBA turns down East Hampton Library expansion

They had top notch legal representation. The ZBA decision is a disgrace & hope it can be overturned. Politics means they don't want any more of the Springs riff-raf and the no se hable ingles contingent in "their" village. You can't tell me the elite & highly educated decision makers in this drama don't understand the community value of a library. Shame, shame, shame on them. " Jul 23, 10 8:23 PM

Tsk, tsk, must have hit a nerve there with the truth, hey?
$279K a year? Where exactly did you get that figure and just how much do you think it would cost to buy the land and build a modern library facility these days?

So you are also saying that the library tax paid by the village residents is sufficent to run the existing library. And the llibrary tax paid by the non-village residents is sufficent to construct a brand new modern facility from the ground up & run & maintain it? What do you think salaries alone total? A library doesn't run entirely on minimum wage workers even if alot of the users themselves are. " Jul 25, 10 4:53 PM

Board Watcher, Come back when you understand the meaning of rhetoric. I'm sure the staff at your local library could point you in the right direction. But why let actual facts get in the way of cranky blather. That might confuse things. Cheers." Jul 27, 10 8:38 AM

Razza, What are you talking about? The bus depot vote was in March & was soundly defeated. Are you referring to the April 17 vote for an increase in the libary's annual operating budget?
Here is the public notification I found when I googled the library vote. "on April 17, 2010 commencing at 10 AM prevailing time, at the East Hampton Library, 159 Main St., East Hampton, New York, for the purpose of voting upon the following item: “SHALL the Board of Managers of the East Hampton Library be authorized to increase the budget funds to be raised for the general use and maintenance of the East Hampton Library and its facilities for the calendar year 2011"

Also, as reading comprehension seems to not be a strong point with posters on this site...here's a link to the library budget. Go there and you can even find out WHAT the taxpayer funded budget pays for. Your libary tax is the biggest bargain you'll ever get.

http://www.easthamptonlibrary.org/events/2011budget.html" Jul 28, 10 11:12 AM

Razza, This is a public forum. You are confusing facts with your opinion. Suggest spending a little time at your local library. It's a fabulous resource (though a bit cramped) and a wonderful bargain for your tax dollars. " Jul 28, 10 8:48 PM

McGintee to sue Town of East Hampton

Weasel with really good counsel. But you knew this had to be coming. McGintee supporters, who is going to reimburse the taxpayers of East Hampton for the damage that incompetent wreaked? Springsgirl, OJ was inocent too. Just saying." Aug 4, 10 9:19 PM

Oh tit for tat little townie. What does it matter where you think I live? A weasel is a weasel & the taxpayers still got/get screwed. " Aug 4, 10 9:54 PM

Some of us are taxpayers in EH Town. Anf WTF does "from away" mean? You all make your living from either Town government or the 50%+ of property owners who make enough of a living , somewhere else, to employ you. Get off your snotty high horse. " Aug 5, 10 9:51 PM

No, because he was a thief. A thief with a political agenda. An absolute EMBARASSMENT to th eparty. Chris Kelly & company should be hung to dry on this." Aug 5, 10 10:02 PM

Toxic algae bloom might be worse this year

CR39 is a Suffolk County road. Sunrise Highway is a state (NYSDOT) road. So which one is it?" Aug 13, 10 8:54 AM

Voters overwhelmingly support East Hampton Library expansion plans

Twisted & egocentric??? Well, now, if the library sues and wins it could very well be interpreted as the ZBA decision was not within the "scope of the law". You can't just make things up and arbitrarily change or ignore the rules in a public process because you don't LIKE what is being proposed and expect it to stand just because you SAY it has to. That's what the court will sort out." Aug 24, 10 8:47 AM

Tuckahoe developer defends plan

New Sag Harbor Teachers Contract Pays More But Bumps Up Health Care Contribution

Razza, You didn't respond to the comment about the exceedingly high median salaries of teachers in this region. It is NOT, by any stretch of imagination, $40,477. The taxpayers who DO know what the salaries are around here have every right to object to their continued and unchecked escalation.

" Dec 7, 10 7:10 PM

Also remember inflation this year is running just a scant over 1%. In 2009 it finished up with a NEGATIVE (downward, less than 0%)increase. I think it is quite reasonable of taxpayers to resist paying for cost of living increases THAT ARE NOT THERE." Dec 7, 10 7:17 PM

Morrow Has New Plans For 'Tuckahoe Main Street'

Ummm, how about there are so many vacant store fronts because the rents are too damn high? Real estate investors did their math wrong & the market can't support their wishful thinking." Dec 8, 10 8:02 PM

Court Agrees: Town Waters Are Exempt From State Fishing License Requirement

Interesting that increased fee revenues could have motivated the DEC decision. It is no secret that the (soon to be) last administration (accidental governor Paterson) has gutted environmental programs in the state & fired the DEC commissioner Pete Grannis for speaking out about it. ALSO, the huge wave of retirements & new (unexperienced) hires a few years ago has put in place alot of questionable decision makers at DEC. Stay strong & keep fighting!" Dec 16, 10 6:51 PM

Two Charged In Water Mill Deer Poaching Incident

DEC stooping to a new low. How about managing the out of control herds instead? Honestly, this agency needs to readress its mission & stop making cheap profits from low hanging fruit." Dec 17, 10 7:09 PM

Residents Challenge Day Camp Application

The camp is an abandoned, pre-existing nonconforming use located on residentially zoned property. Now the new owner wants to change the use & bring in 500 kids & pretend it's still a quiet little tennis club. Would YOU want that next to YOUR house or 500 toilets flushing 10x a day into YOUR lake? " Sep 9, 11 9:42 PM

Day Camp Applicant Seeks Approval Through A Different Avenue

You are exactly right. The use has been abandoned. The use is going to be changed. THe use is going to increase exponentially beyond what it was, even before it was abandoned. All against Town Code. That is why Jay Jacobs, head of the NY State Democratic Party, does not want the ZBA to rule on it & withdrew his application. He's hoping to slip this through the Planning Board under false pretenses. " Sep 9, 11 10:04 PM

Residents Turn Out To Protest North Sea Day Camp

17 houses are not permitted on that property. Mr. Jacobs knows that, but it sure sounds good to tell the North Sea locals, doesn't it." Oct 24, 11 6:20 AM

Camp Developer Files $65 Million Lawsuit Against Project Critics

The problem for Mr. Jacobs is that what is in the flyer is true. The North Sea community is only asking him to prove that what he says is fact is indeed fact. He resists doing so & cites his personal opinions as reason to believe him. Bring it on Mr. Democratic Party Chairman, let's get all the facts out in the open." Oct 24, 11 5:31 PM

It's residential property. Not commercial. If you could hear tennis balls from LFP Road then you couldn't possibly begin to imagine how much noise 500 screaming kids & whistles will sound like. Laws only protect rich people? Nice." Oct 25, 11 5:15 PM

Then we suggest you invite Mr. Jacobs to build his camp next to your home, in your neighborhood. Or he can find a nice commercial property where his money machine, I mean camp, won't bother anyone or stain the environment. Westhampton Airport anyone?" Oct 25, 11 9:11 PM

I'm sorry, but that was your choice to live where you do. Nobody forced that noise on you. FWIW if you live next to all that racket I very much suspect you are not someone who can afford the $1,200-$1,500 a week Jacobs camp will cost you. " Oct 26, 11 10:37 PM

Day Camp Applicant Says No To Potential CPF Acquisition

Jay, Jay, Jay, there you go again, making up stories. And you wonder why the community calls you a liar? First you told the Press you had an approved subdivision for 14 houses. Nope, not true. Then you said you can build 17-30 houses. Nope. Not according to the Health Dept. Now it's 37 condos? Isn't that the reason you bought the property so cheap? It can't be done. " Nov 15, 11 8:23 PM

And Jay, while we're on the topic. CPF isn't interested in making you "whole". Our tax money pays fair market value for property we buy. Tell your investors they have a big tax deduction coming their way when you bail out of this very poorly thought out deal you put together." Nov 15, 11 8:27 PM

North Sea Neighbors To Countersue Jacobs

You continue to misunderstand the situation in North Sea. The property is RESIDENTIAL land. It is NOT zoned for commercial uses, day camps, races tracks or golf courses. Mr. Jacobs is willfully ignoring zoning law & pretending that he can do what he wants because of who he is." Nov 30, 11 5:19 AM
