Housing director claims discrimination by Southampton Town

This new trend of white, neocon zealots screaming "Reverse Racism!" would be hilarious if it weren't so disturbing. White men especially have absolutely no idea whatsoever what it truly means to be a victim of racism based upon the color of your skin. " Jul 18, 09 4:51 PM

Tuckahoe School Board considers superintendent's contract

Kabot: Loss of Conservative Party line a 'betrayal'

To Mr. Wheeler, You asked another poster if they had anything enlightening to bring to the discussion, but a quick look through your past blog postings shows you to be someone more interested in slinging insults and name calling than having a serious discussion: Perhaps a more positive approach would be a better way to make your point." Tuckahoe superintendent resigns amid furor

Last night Trustees Riccardi and Grindle proved that they are completely incapable of serving the community. Both trustees claim they are acting on behalf of their constituents, yet everyone at the meeting last night was there to support Ms. Rozzi, just as we were two years ago. Asked why those who want Mrs. Rozzi gone were not present, Trustee Grindle said they were "afraid" to show their faces. This is the same excuse Trustee Riccardi used when she refused to show up for her own swearing in two years ago when the fact is that those who oppose the board have more to fear than those that support the board. The board claims they have always acted with dignity and in the best interest of the community. When the board was reminded of then Trustee Elect Ricarrdi's abhorrent behavior two years earlier when she called an assembly of concerned parents, teachers, children and community members “mouth-hampton” and "effing a-holes", Trustee Grindle denied it ever happened, despite the fact that it was covered in the Press, recorded in the minutes, and witnessed by at least 30 people, many of whom were in attendance last night and confirmed having heard her very clearly. That incident was followed by the presentation to the board of a petition with over 220 signatures of Tuckahoe voters (more than voted for her) demanding that Trustee Elect Riccardi do what was best for the district and resign. She refused.

As further evidence of her disdain for the voters and teachers in attendance, Trustee Grindle accused no less than four individual's of being “liars” including myself, fellow-Trustee Bob Grisnik, and Superintendent Linda Rozzi. Asked why they wanted Mrs. Rozzi gone, Grindle and Riccardi refused to answer. This was the same tactic used two years ago. At the time Trustee Grindle indicated that there were heinous and egregious “things” that had happened that the community was not privy to because it could not be discussed in public. We later learned that the infractions were minor and of complete insignificance. When those facts came out, the board chose not to vote on the extension of Mrs. Rozzi's contract which then automatically renewed.

It was also revealed that Grindle and Riccardi had discussed Mrs. Rozzi's resignation without Trustee Grisnik (a 20 year veteran of the board) in attendance. When the resolution to accept Superintendent Rozzi's resignation was brought forward by Trustee Grindle and she did not receive a second from Riccardi or Grisnik, she turned to Trustee Riccardi and attempted to explain to her why she needed to second the motion. Unfortunately for her, Trustee Riccardi did not understand and the motion was not carried, but the attempted coercion did not go unnoticed by those in attendance.

It is my belief, and that of those in attendance and many who were unable to attend, that trustees Grindle and Riccardi were acting out of personal animus towards Superintendent Rozzi, a woman lauded by parents and school officials alike for her myriad accomplishments and unwavering commitment to our children. I respect Linda Rozzi's decision to step down. It must have been extremely difficult working with Grindle and Riccardi for the past two years knowing that they were just waiting to get rid of her. It is my sincere belief that if either Riccardi or Grindle had not been on the board, Mrs. Rozzi's contract would have been extended and she would have had no reason to tender her resignation in the first place.

One Tuckahoe parent last night noted that those of us in attendance were to blame for the loss of Mrs. Rozzi because we did not run a candidate against Trustee Grindle this year. That parent was right. But we will not make the same mistake again. Trustee Riccardi is up for reelection this year and last night at least three extremely worthy opponents expressed their intention to run against the Trustee. In May of 2010 we will have an opportunity to make amends, I only regret it will have come too late for Mrs. Rozzi. Linda, we love and respect you and wish you all the best as you begin a new chapter this December. We will remain hopeful that you will one day return to the position you so clearly deserve." Jul 28, 09 12:54 PM

Mr. Wheeler, the details of Mrs. Rozzi's evaluation two years ago were made public. Should you be interested, you can easily file a freedom of information act request for the same materials and decide for yourself. As for this year, Bob Grisnik, a 25 year veteran of the board, has stated publicly that he sees nothing in the evaluation of Ms. Rozzi's performance that would warrant dismissal. You suggest that we should "trust" our school board members, well, I trust Mr. Grisnik." Jul 28, 09 2:04 PM

Mr. Wheeler, I forgot to mention that I appreciate the fact that you are one of the few posters on here who uses your real name. My name is David D'Agostino." Jul 28, 09 2:20 PM

Empire and hospitals take negotiations to the wire; no deal in sight

Mychildmatters, (by the way, so do mine) You say to me, "You can work with everyone or you can rock the boat" - I happen to agree with that. However, the two people rocking the boat are Sharon Grindle and Susan Riccardi.

The boat is filled with teachers, parents and students, and one board member who want Linda to stay. The boat is filled with happy, contented people. The boat was sailing along perfectly well, until it hit the Grindle/Riccardi iceberg. You say it is personal for me but for you it is about your kids. Guess what, I have two kids in Tuckahoe.

By the way are you by any chance the same person that accused me of being an "agitator"? I get the distinct impression you are, but I will allow you the advantage of knowing my name and attacking me personally while you remain anonymous.

Flyonthewall, I suggest you read the entire report, as I have done, so that you can realize the errors of your assertions - there are those that met level three standards and those who did not, but that does not mean they met NO standards whatsoever. Also, it is quite curious how you chose to focus on the lowest number instead of the higher percentages of 88, 81, 87, 93, 91, 77, 76, etc. and the fact that Tuckahoe overall scored the highest rating available in ALL categories. If you want to compare Tuckahoe to other schools, why not compare ALL numbers instead of cherry picking the ones that suit your argument.

You also ignore the fact that these are percentages. In a small school, if you test 25 kids and 3 perform poorly, guess what happens - that's right, the percentages go down. " Jul 29, 09 3:22 PM

Jean, I very much enjoyed your post.

The right refuses to listen to the facts on this issue and instead simply brush off indisputable data as "liberal claptrap". And then, of course, there are those who cannot help but blame the "illegals".

A friend of mine, an American citizen, recently lost her job and when her Cobra coverage ran out, she lost her insurance as well. She could not afford the $1,200.oo monthly premium for her family and, as she had been working for most of the previous year, she did not qualify for Healthy NY. She now pays her pediatrician cash for each visit and lives in constant fear of a serious illness or accident. She may have to start using the emergency room for care and she is not alone.

The real fight is between American citizens and private insurers who's job it is to deny claims and increase profits. This is a battle between health care and health insurance and this time it looks like the health care proponents just might win.

It is amazing how many Americans will fight against their own best interests. Those opposed to health care reform really have no idea what it is they're fighting against. They rail against "government control" yet they have no problem with the CEO of United Health making $106,000.00 an hour? Do you know how me makes so much money? By denying claims. More often it is those who will benefit the most who are most susceptible to lies and misinformation." Aug 19, 09 11:12 AM

Empire, hospitals still at impasse, but issue affecting seniors has been resolved

Representative Bishop, let's begin much needed health care reform right here at home. Start a state and federal investigation of Empire's business practices. Stand up for patients. Empire's sole motivation is profit and they will only act if forced to act. " Aug 26, 09 2:43 PM

Bishop holds town hall meeting on health care reform

Absolutely amazing how many people are willing to believe the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh yet refuse to listen to the FACTS regarding health care reform. Do any of you truly believe that private, for-profit insurance companies are more concerned about your well-being than the government? Private insurance companies make money by denying claims. A public option will survive by keeping you healthy.

Take a look at the salaries and bonuses given to insurance company CEO's http://sickforprofit.com/ceos/ You have to be more than a little crazy to want to continue to pay their salaries. But, if you do, go ahead. The plans being discussed will allow you to continue helping these CEO's to buy their next mansion. Me, I believe health care is a right and I support Tim Bishop and all advocates of single payer and/or public option and no amount of screaming and feet-stomping will change that."
