Congregants at odds with new pastor

Perhaps this new young Pastor needs a refresher course...

1 Corithians 13

1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.

2 And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil;

6 rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;

7 beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;

10 but when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things.

12 For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known.

13 But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

An outpouring of support for Obama

Policy...Im wondering how many McCain supporters can name one of his policies. The truth is most americans dont' vote on policy. Does anyone remember the swift boat debacle? Did you read the article?A woman was concerned about Obama's connection to Bill Ayers and his radical beliefs, and how Isreal will be treated. Hmmm she was sold on Republican Rhetoric, I did not read anything about McCains policies We vote on feelings, fear, ignorance, mistrust. What I saw is that many people looked past thier feelings for the first time in a long time and saw a man who just might be able to move this country forward. This man just happend to be black. Following hate crimes, a new town policy

There is hatred, even in the Hamptons. No one in thier right mind would hope that something on the level of what happend in Patchogue would happen here. Please Mr. Hartely do not fool yourself, it could happen here. The kind of ignorance and fear that lead up to what happened in Patchouge smolders just below the surface even in the Hamptons. Its easy for someone who has never been affected by racisim or prejudice to make light of it. I honestly hope that the 'we told you so" moment never occurs, but the reality of the situation is that it will. Then you and people like you will be forced to take a long hard look at yourselves. Yes the country has elected its first black president, but nothing has really changed for minorities in this country. The same issues of racisim and prejudice are still there, just beneath the surface even in "The Hamptons". " Dec 4, 08 11:25 AM

10-year-old starts charity to benefit children in need

What a wonderful young man. Its a pleasure to know that there are children out there who can see beyond themselves. So many children his age are only interested the newest latest shiny object. I hope his attitude and outlook on life is contagious. We need more like him. He is a credit to his parents and the community. Shame on you Johnny Doe, your sarcastic comment only shows how far our country still has to go, but your poor attempt at humor does highlight the fact that this young man can grow to become whatever he wants, doctor, lawyer, community organizer...and President of the United States..perhaps the first one of Native American decent. Keep doing what you are doing William. You are an exceptional young man. " Dec 18, 08 8:16 PM

Construction worker killed in job site accident in Southampton Village

How ignorant, Tom you assume that because he is hispanic, he must be undocumented. Not every person of hispanic decent is undocumented and underpaid. Its a shame that you would use this mans death to push your own agenda. Its people like you that made those kids in Patchouge think it was ok to go around beating up people who "looked" hispanic. Be careful Tom. Your white hood is showing..." Jan 7, 09 7:40 AM

Im still trying to understand how it is that so many of you come to the assumption that this man is illeagal and underpaid...not valuled by te company that employs him. Some one please explain this to me. If the mans last name had been Johnson...would there be any comments at all?" Jan 8, 09 10:39 AM

Again I say. If his sir name were more Anglo....would this debate be happening? The man is dead...and all people want to do is debate his status...I always wonder what jobs they are taking...because if legal citizens were lining up for these jobs...there would be no need for immigrant labor. Much like the migrant workers of our past..remember them? They worked in the fields picking crops for east end farmers...for very little money and they were citizens...(black citizens) no one complained about thier low wages...horrible living conditions... no one cared. I dont agree with illegal immigration, never have, but it seems there is a need for the labor that they provide. Can we stop focusing on the problems and think about solutions? " Jan 12, 09 3:06 PM

Attorney to investigate worker's death

If your issue is not with the individuals, why do you disrespect them? Its not what you say but how you say it that determines how people view you. Im just wondering when someone is going actually come up with a solution to this problems that is realistic. We cant send them all back it would be an impossible task. So what can we do? Who knows, it could become a non issue if the economy continues its downward trajectory. Hundreds of thousands of amercian citizens are out of work. That means the demand for the kind of services that imigrants provide will go down. No reason to come here if you cant get a job. Then perhaps, the citizens who have had opportunities stolen from them by illegal immigrants, will step into the void....hey this is America anything is possilble. " Jan 15, 09 10:53 AM

Bank teller in Sag Harbor accused of stealing $11k in cash deposits

Most banks do not report internal theft for the exact reasons that you stated. Do you really think all of the fraud out there is committed by career crimminals? Some form of theft takes place in banking institutions across the world everyday and it is usually bank employees that are responsible. Remember the identity theft ring that was busted all those years ago? The ring leader used to work for a major bank in thier consumer credit card department before he moved on to become an identity thief. " Jan 19, 09 11:58 AM

A day of unity and celebration

There is a distinct difference between closing down GITMO and freeing terrorists. On top of that, how long are we going to keep these people there? You can not hold people indefinately with out charging them or bringing them to trail. Its unamerican. If we do that then we are no better than the Vietcong. Remember them? The ones who held Sen. McCain captive and tortured him for 6 years. Our new President is merely doing what should have been done a long time ago. Do you really think that GITMO was established to house enemy combatants indefinately? Im more afraid of the ignorance of my fellow Americans than I am of a terrorist. " Jan 22, 09 7:35 PM

Marienfeld fired as Pierson hoops coach

Several Parents complained....has anyone spoken to the players? Or dont they have a say? New Superintendent. who dosnt know the community... kids who obviously dont know what it means to be a team players and parents who indulge them...A mans reputation is damaged...sad ... very sad. I hope the new coach bans those two quitters from the team. That would be a lesson to them...Winners never quit..and quitters never win." Jan 30, 09 4:18 PM

Maureen's Haven continues to provide a harbor for the homeless

Bopche, when I was a kid, my mom always told me never make the mistake of thinking that you are to good to do something because you never know what you may have to do to survive. Don't judge to harshly. Menial labor, covers a broad range of occupations, some of which, do not pay enough to keep you from being homeless. More and more large companies and small businesses are being forced to let go of thier workers. Instead of judging...just thak God its not you. " Feb 3, 09 11:41 AM

Some concerned Bridgehampton project will harm community character

I agree it is an eyesore...has been since I was child and it was an old gas station...at least I think it was. But it is part of the community, I think what some people seem to loose site of is the community. All the board is asking is that the design be in keeping with the original style... Progress does not mean we have to loose out on chararcter and charm.... " Feb 25, 09 11:04 AM

Supervisor has bone to pick over councilwoman's dog

What about common sense? Pets do not belong in the workplace. I dont know of any place of business that would allow an employee to bring a pet to the workplace. I know its the east end of Long Island and not a corporate office in Manhattan, but ther are unspoken rules of professional etiquette that should be observed. Southampton Town should not have to create a policy banning pets from the workplace. Any person with an ounce of professionalism or common sense should know that bringing a pet to the workplace is unacceptable. Unless..its pet store...even then...it might not be a good idea..pets belong at home not at work. " Mar 4, 09 10:50 AM

Pastor ousted, plans to sue

Perhaps the Rev. Mosley should take a moment and read the Bible.

1 Corinthians 6:1-7

1 If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints?

2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?

3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church![a]

5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?

6 But instead, one brother goes to law against another—and this in front of unbelievers!

7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?

8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.

May the LORD add a blessing to reading (and understanding) of HIS word. " Mar 25, 09 10:21 AM

Southampton wrestling coach arrested on drug charges

Hmmmm nothing like a rush to judgement. None of you knows what he was using or the extent of his usage of this substance. I am not condoning drug use, but suddenly a young man who has been coaching and teaching in your community has demons? Has hit bottom? Shouldnt be around your children? No one noticed these demons pryor to his arrest? I dont know how long Mr. McCready has been employed by the district, but the "legal entanglement" they refer may not have shown up in a background check if the agency that the district uses only checked counties or states that Mr. McCready lived in. There is no national database on crimminal offenses. Screening companies have to do thier own due diligence. I doubt there is a cover up... I would like to think that had district officials been aware of any issues in Mr. McCready's personal life that would have affected his ability to perform the job for which he was hired, they would not have given him the job. " Mar 27, 09 10:05 AM

I just hope that the Press does a follow up on this story. Perhaps here Coach McCready's side of things. Im sure you will, but I doubt it will make the front page..." Mar 27, 09 11:52 AM

Southampton Town Comptroller charged with DWI

Bottom line, he was driving in the wrong lane!!!!! He could have hurt someone or worse. Should he loose his job? No. Everyone makes mistakes, public servant or not. Ted Kennedy.... a drunk that killed somone while driving..now a recovering drunk and US Senator. Former President Bush Jr. a recovering drunk...need I go on? I agree with native son, Let he who is without Sin Cast the first Stone. Or for some of you (I don't drink) There but for the grace of God go I. Come on...we have tax cheats and all sorts of 'crimminals" holding public office...and this one should resign for driving under the influence? Give me a break. Unless its proven that he is drinking on the Job I see no reason to call for his resignation. I can not believe how small minded and unforgiving some people are..." Mar 27, 09 12:04 PM

Code enforcement shuts down soup kitchen at Southampton Tire

There but for the grace of God goes me or you or any of us. No we are not illegal aliens, but any of us could one day find ourselves struggling just to put food in our bellies. This is not about illegal immigration this is about showing kindness, one human being to another. Such hatred and ignorance... why on earth would anyone legal or not want to live amongst you people. You sneer at them, treat them like they are less than human, they might as well be a black person living in Montgomery Alabama pre civil rights era... that’s how you all sound...like a bunch of ignorant bigots. What next? Lynch mobs? Don't say it couldn’t happen in the Hampton’s...I’m sure you all read about the nooses that have been popping up in the woods, let’s just pray that one day you don't find a noose wrapped around someone’s neck. What is wrong with you people?" Apr 1, 09 1:59 PM

Southampton wrestling coach arrested on drug charges

Interesting...most of the negative and ignorant comments are coming from people that don't even live in the Southampton School District. Sweep around your own backyards... wasn’t a principal from your neck of the woods brought up on charges for harassment or something along those lines... in fact isn’t he suing? What about that board member who resigned because of theft charges…? Mr. McCready has a problem; hopefully he is addressing that problem and getting the help he needs. Maybe this is a wake up call for the entire east end community. Even people who seem to have it together on the surface have issues, this particular issue is addiction. Should former president Bush been barred from public service because he was a recovering alcoholic? Think about all of the people in history that have done so much for others despite their own personal demons. Instead of disparaging him, encourage him to get the help that he needs, so that he can come back and continue doing the great job that so many others have praised him for doing. I’ve seen what addiction can do, but I’ve also seen people turn their lives around. Give him a chance. The kids are watching, and one of those kids could be dealing with the same issues, how you treat Mr. McCready, will not only affect him…but countless others…for better or worse. " Apr 2, 09 3:57 PM
