Supreme Court lifts injunction on use of Aldrich Park

What I find disturbing is the last paragraph in the article.

A NYC Firm (Not Long Island or Southampton) acted on the behalf of "Two unnamed day laborers" to have the ruling overturned. Whether these laborers are legal or not is not disclosed.

Is it just me or is anyone else wondering about the identities of these day laborers? Moreover, can some legal firm from out of town acting on behalf of two anonymous people have more legal clout than local homeowners who pay high property taxes?" Nov 24, 09 11:44 PM

All of the posts reflect valid sentiments. Whether or not you agree with them is, of course, everyone's personal choice.

That being said, I want to point out two things:

1.) We are obviously not going to solve this complex issue on an internet forum.

I would hope that the comments at least reflect some kind of sober, constructive exchange about the issues rather than simply venting personal emotions- valid though they may be.

2.) The COMPELLING ISSUE in this article is the Supreme Court decision that was overturned on the local homeowners by a powerful, politically connected advocacy firm in NYC- working on behalf of "unnamed parties" who may or may not be legal citizens of the United States.

This is a scary concept.

The legal, taxpaying homeowners (our neighbors!) lost their temporary court decision to anonymous parties. How does this bode for their case?

Perhaps it's time that we local taxpayers and homeowners employed the services of a powerful, out of county advocacy firm. Apparently, our local attorneys do not have the clout.

" Nov 25, 09 11:03 AM

Once again, not a single person this forum has addressed the specific issue in the article.

The issue is this...."LATINO JUSTICE". (that's the name of the NYC advocacy group)

If any of you had even bothered to read the article before you had gotten onto your self-important soap boxes to espouse either your a.) venom or b.) brilliant socio-political manifestos, you would have noticed that Latino Justice has just scored a cork-popping legal victory over the big, bad homeowners of the Hamptons.

With this victory, minor though it may be, we shall now see NYC "advocates" wielding very large and influential sticks within our government that will affect life on the east end in ways that we can't begin to imagine.

" Nov 25, 09 5:50 PM

"Latino Justice" is a very powerful legal advocacy firm located in New York City.

According to their website they are making quite a name for themselves in legal circles.

Again, what concerns me so deeply is how an out-of -county legal firm can represent two "anonymous" defendants to successfully overturn a Suffolk Supreme court ruling which initiallydefended the rights of Southampton property owners. (temporary though it may be)" Nov 25, 09 8:36 PM

Trespassing charges dropped against East Quogue woman arrested near ANG base; wrongful arrest lawsuits filed

Maybe we've all missed the point here.......

It's NOT about the right to bear arms

It's Not about real or imagined threats of terrorism.

It's about CELEBRITY.

Genovese was totally unknown to the public before her two arrests.
She was a "nobody"
But she's got an audience (and fans) now.
Over a hundred of us logged on to talk about her.

She's relishing every minute.

She will be back. Same place. Same guns. Same charges and arrests.

How do I know?
Because she's got the taste of celebrity now." Nov 27, 09 10:31 PM

I wouldn't be surprised.

BTW, Google her name." Nov 28, 09 9:10 AM

In a previous posting, Genovese said,
"I did not fight for "MY RIGHTS, I fought for (all of) "YOUR Rights!"

" Nov 28, 09 9:17 AM

I'll just add this then I'm outta' here.

Ms. Genovese has an AGENDA!
And it AIN'T about protecting "our" rights.

Again. Google her name for an eyeful.

Best to all and drive safely,
Elliot" Nov 28, 09 10:10 AM

So I guess I'm the only only one who thinks that Ms. Genovese is dangerous.

Wait until you see what she does next!
I guarantee that you read about her again." Nov 29, 09 2:40 PM

Hello, Patriot, (ah... a REAL American)

Good post!

I guess the police TOTALLY overreacted when they found a shotgun and an XM-15 Assault Rifle and ammo in her car. You can forgive them, though, for being kind of hinkey after 9/11.

Your cure for political and social asphyxiation is to get a bunch of guns?

Oh... Mr. Wheeler, to respond (without name calling) You're correct.
I am a Hoplophobe. This silent majority of Glen Beck zealots has given me an irrational fear of gun OWNERS with a right wing, political agenda see 'Patriot' post above)

Seventh day of deliberations ends with no verdict in Oddone case

Twice you blamed Mr. Reister (the victim) for his own death.

Are you insane?" Dec 7, 09 5:12 PM

Someone has to be here to counter your insensitivity that you so thinly disguise as pseudo-professional, legal knowledge." Dec 7, 09 5:26 PM

Oddone is a falsely accused man???
He choked someone to death!

Exactly what is Oddone falsely accused of?
Next you'll be telling us that Oddone is some kind of innocent, political prisoner." Dec 7, 09 11:06 PM

My best wishes to all of the Southampton merchants for a safe and very prosperous season.

Jury deliberations continue in Oddone murder trial

Perhaps Usernames1 should stay off the 27east blog and post her "remarks" on some Bay Shore's newspaper blog." Dec 8, 09 6:18 PM

Seventh day of deliberations ends with no verdict in Oddone case

Since many on this forum have bought into the defense attorney's claim of "self-defense", allow me to offer a different view of why Reister choked someone to death for 2 full minutes while bar patrons tried their damnedest to get him to stop:

Riester was PISSED!. He was enjoying doing his "sexy-man" dance for the female patrons. He was finally pulled down off the table by Oddone and it hurt his pride.

He was mortified! He was insulted in public in front of women.
He wanted to teach the bouncer a lesson!

Any claim about self defense is pure fantasy. PURE FANTASY. Period." Dec 8, 09 11:22 PM

"I imagine he thought he was some perp starting trouble in a bar. "

Oddone told him repeatedly to get off the table. Reister cursed him out! Thought Reister was some perp starting trouble? Oddone was dancing on the table!!!
Is that normal behavior in a bar?" Dec 8, 09 11:31 PM

I inverted the names by mistake. Apologies." Dec 8, 09 11:43 PM

Thank you!" Dec 9, 09 2:32 PM

Of course,

Mr. Reister pulled Oddone off the table, as was his right and responsibility.

Late nights at bars with drunks require the presence of a bouncer. Reister told Oddone repeatedly to get down. FInally, Oddone cursed him out.

That's the big red flag for any bouncer. After he got Oddone off the table, Oddone got him in a headlock from behind and choked him to death, the horrible details of which I shall not include here.

Oddone is certainly guilty. I await the jury's verdict." Dec 9, 09 4:33 PM

If I was dancing on your table in your restaurant (probably drunk) and you told me again and again to get down and my reply to you was, "F--CK YOU"-
tell me, angry one, what would YOU do?
" Dec 9, 09 5:40 PM

According to most comments on this forum, EVERYONE else is guilty:
*The DA is guilty.
The Police Dept is guilty.
*The Public House is guilty.
*Riester ( the victim) is guilty.
*The Justice system is guilty.
* The Eyewitnesses are guilty.
*The Press is guilty.
Ad Nauseum....

Everyone but the actual guy who choked someone to death in public is guilty.

" Dec 10, 09 10:25 AM

The fact that bothers me so much is the amount of time that Oddone had Reister in a headlock (that no one present at the Public House could break no matter how much they tried)

Look at your watch and count out two minutes +

Picture, if we can, choking someone for that long.

That speaks to me of more than simple anger. It says RAGE.
This is the element that tells me Oddone is guilty of much more than simple self defense." Dec 10, 09 10:49 AM

Good point." Dec 10, 09 11:16 AM

True. A discrepancy of such proportions makes all the difference between self defense and manslaughter, No?
I'm sure this point was thoroughly examined in court. At least I HOPE it was.

" Dec 10, 09 12:13 PM

Dear Username1,

Do you know for an actual fact the exact amount (2min+) time of the choking was a LIE?

Your friendship with the defendant has certainly overtaken your rationality and.... if it is at all possible, can you please reply without the anger, name calling and personal attacks on the other commentors?" Dec 10, 09 12:52 PM

Thank you, SHRes,

I, too, am weary of Username1. " Dec 10, 09 12:54 PM

It's a damn shame! The restaurant will certainly be missed.

Southampton Town looks to confer authority of peace officers on code officers

The entire scheme sounds at best, questionable and at worst, frightening.
Warrant-less Searches? Code Officers making arrests?
Where in the living hell does it end?
And PLEASE don't cite other instances where searches without warrants are an everyday occurrence.

We're talking about Code Violations here. NOT Police.

Sounds like you should start your own militia .
It's either that or live in morbid fear of those, I think you called them, "frightening illegal aliens".

Look, we have a highly trained and professional Police Dept in addition to Suffolk County Officers, Sheriffs and the State Police. They specialize in dealing with illegal activity. I see no need for Code Enforcement to do the job of the Police. As an aside, I wonder what the PBA has to say about this issue!

Financial investigation unearths $3 million deficit in Southampton Town beach fund

Forgive me for asking both a redundant and obvious question but..... What The Hell have the Officers of this town been doing the last few years??? Sweet Mother of Moses, this really IS a shell game (TY, Real Conservative)!

...And I thought Wall Street held the patent on hustlers and incompetents. " Apr 15, 10 3:06 PM

SH Press reports here: "The deficit means that the town thought it had $3 million more in the capital fund than it actually did, and will now have to find a way to plug the hole in the enterprise fund."

My Question: Is "Plug the Hole" just a folksy term for increasing taxes, decreasing essential town services, programs and teachers in public schools?

If this happened in the private sector, there would be three little words:
Go To Jail.

Go directly to jail. Do not pass GO. Do not hire an attorney, public relations firm and issue a politically correct statement while blaming everyone else who had ever held office in Southampton. SHAMEFUL!" Apr 15, 10 4:11 PM
