Details Of Tuckahoe Road Reroute Proposal Emerge Amid Community Outcry At Work Session

Definitely more blue, but the pinks had smugness going for them." Aug 5, 16 11:58 AM

Two things. First, the comment at the meeting from the golf "professor emeritus," whatever that means, who said he was only concerned about the safety of the people driving through the golf course, and how some little child could be killed by a flying golf ball if that dangerous road isn't closed. Such a thoughtful man. Please, we've survived for over 100 years without that happening, I'm thinking it's not a big issue.

Second, their generous offer to give Tuckahoe School $1M. Let's not forget WHY Tuckahoe School is teetering on bankruptcy. The four golf courses in the school district pay absurdly low property taxes, due in part to their classification as 'agricultural' land, which is laughable, and due in larger part to the clubs' refusal to be honest about the income they generate. If Shinnecock and the other clubs were paying even close to their fair share of property taxes, the school district would be fiscally sound. http://www.27east.com/news/article.cfm/Southampton-Village-Surrounding-Areas/398656/Golf-Clubs-in-Tuckahoe-Take-Up-Large-Percentage-Of-District-Pay-Low-Percentage-Of-Property-Taxes

As another reader commented on the earlier story, this is a classic example of predatory consumption, and the town board needs to understand that our town is NOT for sale to the highest bidder." Aug 5, 16 12:16 PM

Southampton High School Football Players Support Suspended Coach At Board Meeting

Sounds like he handled it exactly the way I'd want him to handle it if he were dealing with my kid. Would be nice if the board did the right thing for once and commended the man for his judgment and moved on. We'll see.

Class Warfare And Land Use

Really, really well said. The one point I would add is that the club's "generosity" in offering $1M to the Tuckahoe school district wouldn't be necessary if the golf elite hadn't wrangled themselves an agricultural tax rate some years back, thereby effectively bankrupting the district, which relied on the tax income from three golf courses. Jay Schneiderman needs to tell these people to get their grubby paws off this beloved public road, or he can forget about ever again winning an election on the East End.

East End Community Rallies Around Victim Of Racist Attack In Hampton Bays

Can we just be grateful that we live in a community where the presence of morons like the two in the pickup are outweighed by the many good people willing to step up and help when someone's being targeted like this woman? And grateful too that the Press covered the backlash -- too often we only get the bad news, not the good." Nov 23, 16 12:18 PM

Southampton Town Expects To Hold At Least One More Public Hearing In January On Proposed Tuckahoe Center Change Of Zone Before Voting

Morrow's delusional if he thinks the community is behind this project. I don't know anybody who isn't going to profit from it who thinks it's a good idea.

Southampton Town Supervisor Pushes For Alternative To Tuckahoe Center: Assisted Living

This sounds like a really viable solution and I hope the developers will consider it. Thanks Jay for thinking creatively. Maybe Morrow/Nil et al need to be reminded that they purchased this property with the zoning it currently has. If somebody promised them a zoning change, then I guess it sucks to be them, but when you play dirty, sometimes you get played dirty. They should put on their big boy pants, accept that the town is NOT going to approve the Tuckahoe Center, and move on." Feb 22, 17 9:57 AM
