Arthur Miller And Marilyn Monroe In Gansett

As a teen in the 80s, a classmate told me about her dad who was a SH village officer, who came across Marilyn Monroe sitting on the curb outside the Saks which was then on Main Street. Late 50s, early 60s? They wouldn't let her try on dresses and stuff because she wasn't wearing underwear, she told him. According to gossipy lore passed down, maybe not true! But interesting. "..and the best landscaping this side of Covent Gardens."

Uh, Covent Garden is an urban plaza in London with an opera house. There's no landscaping besides a decorative shrub or two. " May 7, 17 2:54 AM

UPDATE: Southampton School Officials Change Prom Policy Following Requests From Community

Wait, the Southampton School district is paying a PR company based in Bohemia? To explain this mess? Since when to public schools hire private public relations companies to explain themselves, with taxpayer money? This is extremely peculiar.

Let the young man attend the prom with his girlfriend, it's ridiculous that such a fuss has been made and that SHS is hiring an outside PR company. Boggling. I hope the young people have fun with their prom. Grown-ups can be ridiculous. " Jun 7, 17 10:12 AM

The Reverend Marvin Dozier Remembered For Work In Community and Church

I remember him well from SHS and what a kind, friendly presence he was. I was a newbie freshman panicked because I was late for class, no idea where to go, and he pointed, "Thataway!". Always a smile, he was just a wonderful guy. I am so sorry to read of his passing, and send my deepest sympathies to his family. A lovely person and such a kind great contributor to the community. Demolition Begins At Former Star Room Property

Sort of a shame that the article couldn't be bothered to mention that the Swamp was a historical meeting place for the gay community in the Hamptons from the 1970s until the early 2000s, for the locals and our summer visitors as well. It was a gay club, and in the summers it was hopping, many celebrities dropping in. But in the winter the gay community kept the place going in a friendly fun and convivial safe atmosphere, I have many good memories of the people I met there, including two long-term boyfriends. The owners sold, and it was considered more profitable to do the bottle-service thing for the summer crowds, which is a shame. It was a real community center for gay people who are an important part of Hamptons social history, and I wish the article could have at least acknowledged that. " Jul 30, 18 12:06 PM

Zeldin, Gershon Spar, Parry In Home Stretch Of Campaign

I grew up in Southampton, a town I loved and still do, and I am so sad to sad to read such horrible comments here. All the time.

I went to Tuckhahoe Elementary -itself a Native American name- then to Southampton High School.

Let me tell you- our African- American friends from the Hill or our Native American friends from the Res- it made no difference. They were our friends, great people we grew up with, our classmates and friends. Lifelong bonds forged.

I really hate looking at some of the comments here. They're not us. They're not the Southampton community I know and love, not our community. You haters can watch Fox News all you want, but your attempts to break the bonds of our friendship and community will fail.

I wish the comments here weren't such a bitter, resentful place. Sorry. My best to the staff here, not your fault." Nov 4, 18 1:51 AM

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital In Final Steps To Launch Fundraiser For New Location

"(SH) hospital officials truly are starting from scratch in designing a new modern hospital to replace the current facility in a century-old building in the middle of the village, retrofitted for its purpose. ."- Huh? The original hospital is that old, but the more modern building we all know and have experienced as SHH is certainly not. Anyway, glad the campus of the former SHCollege will finally be utilized in a useful way. The population out here has expanded so much, even finding parking at the current SHH is difficult.
