Fairway Restaurant Poised For Return To Poxabogue

Now, the same situation in the private sector. Mr. Murray would have to go to planning and get approvals for signs and use. Maybe he would be open by August 2012. The government should never have been involved in this. More taxpayer money wasted." Mar 23, 11 9:07 AM

Town Looks To Take First Step To Regulate Wastewater

This is a joke, Right?" Jun 2, 11 7:39 PM

Another proposed mandate by government. These people have to justify their existance by coming up with more and more regulations. What's next, white cars reflect too much sun and can cause blindness?...let's ban all the white cars in the Town of Southampton. I am sure all the members of town board with homes have solar electric, geothermal heating, sealed homes etc...wait, that costs too much, they can't do it on their salary. Let individual buyers and or homeowners decide for themselves." Jun 7, 11 7:41 AM

Town Board Will Hold Hearing Tuesday On New Energy Efficient Building Standards

That's good...do more to hurt the local economy.Besides that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play. They don't understand costs asociated with their actions. When Town Board members do it themselves, then they can mandate to other people. This is purely job preservation by government workers. LEAVE US ALONE!" Jul 25, 11 12:29 PM

Hampton Bays Civic Association Laments Pollution In Bays

Its funny how all of a sudden Septic tanks are the problem just when the Town is trying to impose some sort of punitive policy that make homeowners spend more money to monitor and upgrade their systems. In the article it was noted that fertilizers do not afferct the waterway but because it was a hot topic a few years back, landscapers had to spend alot of money for certifications and stiff fines for improper use. This is all agenda driven. The bay will flush itself out as indicated. If a monsoon comes, don't swim the next day." Aug 18, 11 3:22 PM

“Lawn fertilizer does affect the waterway, but it’s a small impact compared to septic tanks.”
All humans should leave the east end. we can have the squirrels, gophers, birds, and all wild life trained, at the taxpayers expense of course, to use septic treatment.

" Aug 19, 11 11:17 AM

Ah, the hypocrites are rampant. I guess all posting here are vegitarian (we all know that shellfishing and fishing affect the ecosystem). Then when you get off the computers you run to your hybrid or high mileage automobiles. I am sure the geothermal systems are going in as we speak along with the solar PV panels and spray foam insulation. No plastics in the housholds. There is too much "do as I say, not as I do". Things can always be improved through technology. Government mandates on the production level is good to ease the pain of consumers paying for it. To retroactively mandate change is too costly and force people (especially seniors) out of their homes." Aug 22, 11 12:45 PM

Sure. All waterfront development today has to go through a rigorous/expensive process that require a multitude of approvals(DEC,Board of Health, Town, etc...) before a shovel can go into the ground. It is there that the newer systems could be mandated. The Town is now on a mission to have all residential septic systems go through inspections and upgrades. This will be too costly for existing homeowners. Look at the energy requirements that the town is forcing on new home builders. They do not understand the costs. Price out some of this stuff and you will see. Yes it saves "in the long run" but who has the $$$ for the upfront costs. This is nothing more than government trying to get bigger and dictate your life." Aug 23, 11 7:50 AM

Have you ever done it? Gone through planning? conservation board? SC dept. of health? Built something from scratch? please be honest..." Aug 23, 11 3:11 PM

Well I guess we have a difference of opinion on the meaning of "rigorous". We are being micro managed by those whose incomes are dependent on the laws they create. You cannot keep on mandating costs to homeowners in the name of the environment. Eventually the well runs dry." Aug 25, 11 8:19 AM

So just to confirm. I know you would never mandate something to other people without doing it yourself. You have an updated septic system. Geothermal Heating and AC, PV panels and no fertilizer on your lawn. You have no carbon footprint and use no fossil fuels whatsoever. You are a vegitarian and eat nothing that has been harvested from the sea. Thank you for leading by example." Aug 25, 11 9:31 AM

Southampton Town Board Sends Supermajority Vote For PDDs To Public Vote

OK, maybe I don't get it. Seems like typical government waste of time and money. If a 3 to 2 vote can exempt the need for a supermajority , all you will ever need is 3 board members support the PDD. The Group for the East End is only about "their" East End, not necessarily the majority." Aug 26, 11 8:35 AM

A Third Of Southampton Town Now Preserved

Think of how much less our taxes would be if the Town did not take 33% of land off the tax rolls. The more they buy, the more we pay. If you want to sell your property, try and develop it. The Town will buy it. " Dec 1, 11 9:15 PM

Through proper zoning and a consistant "Plan" you can achieve the same bucolic goals without a burden to the taxpayer. The Town does not know how to save money and every year taxes will be increased...that is a fact. Soooooooo, when you take away more and more of the taxable base, the extra burden falls upon the existing tax payers. It is possible to achieve both. You just need competent people running the show.." Dec 2, 11 8:00 AM

Nature, get a grip. The pizza pie is only so big. You assume all development is bad. It is not governments role to buy land. The money has to come from somewhere." Dec 5, 11 12:10 PM

Southampton Town Board Holds Off On Plastic Bag Ban

Hey Dodger, as you shop in Riverhead this holiday season with the money leftover from paying your taxes, you should consider the following:

Of course, no one wants to specifically hurt the environment. To that arguement I always find it interesting how an environmentalist can stress the importance of hunting and fishing. To save the environment just so you could kill its inhabitants cracks me up.

My point was, town board needs to focus on creating a local economy to support continued protection of our resources. You cannot spend first and try and get the funds for it later. Not everyone fishes for a living...

Head Of Southampton Town Planning Department Jefferson Murphree Resigns

Hopefully Town Board would look to hire someone outside of government. Someone who has an idea of all costs associated with development. Someone who can set forth a plan that understands what time and money cost. If you want to put an addition on your home, it costs a fortune and takes forever. If you want to go into business in Southampton, it costs a fortune and takes forever. And, don't shoot me, if you want to fix your building or build a new one, it costs a fortune and takes forever. Let's develop a plan, stick to it, forget about a bunch of costly studies, and bring the Town back to vibrant community. Look at all the vacancies on 39 and on main street. Enough said about the success of our planning." Dec 21, 11 1:34 PM

To think that the Department of Land Management has 6 divisions is scary. Southampton doesn't know what they are doing so they create a "division" or a new law. As we pay the tax bills, think of that......" Dec 22, 11 6:51 AM

Southampton Town Board Enhances CPF Reserves

If you had planners that had a clue on what they were doing you wouldn't need the CPF in the first place. This is a penalty for any real estate transaction in the Town. So the powers that be think it is a good idea to borrow against the future PROJECTED revenues. What if that doesn't work out. Plus, ALL taxpayers in the town pay for this..the pie is only so big. Take away slices off the tax rolls and we all have to pay more. Simple math." Jan 24, 12 8:34 AM

Cluster building, transfer development rights, tax deferred land donation, upzoning, acreage limitations, common sense zoning, to name a few.

To think that ALL taxpayers do not pay for this is flat out wrong. When you take ANY property off the tax rolls, by definition, the remaining parcels on the tax rolls have to pay more. That is a best case scenerio providing the municipality and schools keep their revenue needed the same. As we all know, they need more money every year. The CPF properties purchased do not contribute, the extra burden goes on the remaining parcels of land. Simple division. I am not necessarily against it, but please realize that we all pay.

Nature, socialism doesn't work. Government can't prevent everything." Jan 24, 12 10:45 AM

. "That's why commercial development is so important because it pays way more in taxes than it uses" Nature, bite your tongue! Stop thinking all development is bad. 100% of people writing on this blog would not be here if there was no development. Don't let the CAC's see your quote..." Jan 25, 12 8:48 AM

Southampton Town Board Approves Purchase Of East Hampton's Share Of Poxabogue Golf Course

So I get this straight...the CPF is now used to stop developed land from being redeveloped to something else. So if the Town rather have a car dealership at a location rather than a developer build a supermarket, it can use the CPF to buy the car dealership? Same thing. The Town should not have bought it in the first place. Stay away from the private sector. " Mar 27, 12 11:03 AM

Sorry, I didn't realize it was a mandate of town government to provide "recreational enjoyment" at the taxpayers expense. The analogy was that the town purposely purchased a private ongoing entity to thwart possible development. What's to stop them from purchasing any other and converting it for public use to stop a development. I always thought that is why we have zoning laws...." Mar 27, 12 2:50 PM

"Not to mention the "taxpayers expense" used to purchase this golf course came (mostly) from millionaires and billionaires trading real estate"

Jealous, hey Nature....when properties come off the tax rolls, we all pay. Please don't confuse public safety a need to spend money for the sake of spending money..." Mar 28, 12 9:43 AM

Do you understand how taxes are levied? Maybe you need to take a course.

Make a crew of people lug a dead whale 500 feet because we can't ask a piping plover to move..amazing. It's nice when money is no object." May 4, 12 8:16 AM

Nature, You are joking right? What does more damage in that instance....a bunch of people (destroyers of all thing good) lugging a 800 pound whale 500 feet or backing up a truck the five hundred to make life easier? After someone in the group goes out on disability with a bad back it is guaranteed to cost more. Besides that Mrs. Lincoln...how was the play?" May 4, 12 10:13 PM

Southampton Boy Will Be Allowed To Play Field Hockey Next Season

This is the type of decision that will allow school districts to drop field hockey from their program. If 5 or 6 boys go out for the team what happens then? When your daughter gets barrelled over by a boy playing the sport will you bring a lawsuit? This is ridiculous. Start a club team. Travel. Thats what hockey players, fencing, luge athletes do. Waste of taxpayer money." May 15, 12 2:25 PM

26 Vacancies Found In Southampton Village Business District

Who wants to do business in this town.? Two or three years and a ridiculous cost to open a store. Everything is Special Excepted zoning. Even "permitted uses" cost a fortune. Landlord Blames Westhampton Beach Village For Vacant Building

let's leave it looking like garbage instead of coming up with a plan such as phasing in the work. The problem is that government officials have no idea about costs and what it takes to survive in business. They follow the rules that they created to do nothing but protect their own jobs and benefits. Going into business is tough enough without being substantially in the hole before you can open. Strict public safety is important...having someone spend a forturne on a landscape design or what color sign to put up is not." Jul 19, 12 11:10 AM
