Suffolk County, Southampton Town Officials Break Ground On Speonk Commons Affordable Housing Project Tuesday

The same Town that cannot enforce the housing laws in Hampton Bays and allow people to live in deplorable conditions in old hotels. Lots of Kool-Aid" Jan 17, 18 10:20 AM

Eastport South Manor Can't Shed Fiscal Stress Rating

This is what happens when you keep giving away the healthcare and retirement costs. How about do like most people. When you retire, get off the taxpayers back? Smart enough to teach our children, but not smart enough to plan retirement? The system is broken. Needs dramatic change." Jan 30, 18 2:42 PM

Service Station Restaurant Owners Are Out; Lease Sold Back To Landlord

Right EH. Perfect for people to come out and live like hermits in their homes. Nothing to do in winter. They are getting what they want. A three month community with no local establishments in the winter." Jan 31, 18 3:42 PM

Bridgehampton CAC Supports Proposed Historic District In Hamlet

the line about helping property values is laughable and ignorant. Historic districts generally create hurdles making it difficult for any business or homeowner to do any improvements on THEIR property. It is just another hurdle. The same can be accomplished with smart planning and reasonable growth. " Feb 1, 18 7:46 AM

Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming Wants Ride-Sharing Tax To Go To County, Not State

Typical politicians wanting to get a piece of any successful business. Its the old saying...it never comes down to money...It ALWAYS comes down to money. Taxation in the name of safety, the new way the politicians raise money. 5 cent bags anyone?

Eastport South Manor School District Shortfall Jumps To $4.4 Million For Next Year

This is what happens when the inmates run the asylum. Time to start merging school districts. Stop giving away money for 181 days of work with no accountability. And, when you retire, you retire. Off the taxpayers back. If you are smart enough to teach you should be smart enough to plan for retirement. The old adage that the benefits are needed because of decreased wages does not work anymore. The Teachers union is bankrupting the taxpayer. Things, however, will never change as long as the politicians are scared to take them on. How about every teacher at ESM take a 5k pay cut. Problem solved. Instead they constantly whine about how bad they have it. Get real jobs and see if you can handle it." Feb 15, 18 7:28 AM

First of all, not 8 hours. Only can work 6 hours or so by contract. Second, its the job, you have a choice. 3rd, comes down to benefits. Its not cut everything as you say. Its stop going to the taxpayers for everything. There are what? 60 or so School Districts in Suffolk. Mention merge to the teachers, then they get upset. Obviously you think the teachers are babysitters and not educators." Feb 15, 18 7:38 AM

Why pay all the superintendents, administrators, buying offices, clerical. Does IBM have 10 headquarters within a 10 mile radius? The BOE can only do so much. Contracts, unions, state mandates severely limit how much they can save. Have the teachers pay the increase in benefits. Have them plan for their own retirement. Why should taxpayer money fund their retirement. Figure it out on your own like most people. Time to start thinking out of the box. ESM merged two small districts in order to get the High School. Center Moriches, East Moriches, Westhampton, Remsenburg all have administrators, Supers, and ridiculous waste. " Feb 16, 18 7:43 AM

Fore 1 totally missing the point. A teacher should not rely on the taxpayer for life.
At some point they need to be responsible for their own healthcare and retirement. " Feb 16, 18 3:20 PM

Eastport Group Seeks More Information About Utility Poles

Someone had to be on the "take" in order to get those poles up. Brookhaven and Southampton spend so much effort to insure neighborhood preservation that in no way could those eyesores be approved. Heading East on Sunrise looks like you are headed into a futuristic jail. Horrible. Not to mention, you hit one and you are a goner. My guess nothing can be done." Feb 20, 18 1:33 PM

East Hampton Struggles To Keep Housing Inventory 'Affordable'

These are the same people that want it mandatory for new homes to install $25,000 septic systems that run on electricity 24/7. So much for affordability. " Mar 2, 18 10:16 AM

ESM Will Slash Teaching Staff, Potentially Close One School By 2021 To Bridge Funding Gap

Full year salaries and benefits for 181 days and 6 hours of work per day. Tax payer burden after retirement. 4 elementary music teacher saving $480k. Plus over administration and waste. Eventually it has to catch up. The taxpayer can no longer afford gross incompetence in managing the district. Why does the taxpayer have to pay for retirement and benefits? Can't they figure it out themselves like most of America? " Mar 12, 18 7:46 AM

Negatory Fore, Most of America has County districts, try pulling that off with the union. Also, negotiated by whom? When you allow ex teachers on school boards who's side are they on? The reality is, the Teachers Union is strong and fearful politicians play into their wants at the expense of the taxpayer. As for your garbage collectors and other union positions, small percentage of overall bill. 80% of your property taxes goes to the district. Also, they work all year. The gravy train has reached a boiling point. I am not anti teacher, only, at some point you have to stop the taking and realize the ramifications of what you are asking for. " Mar 12, 18 8:44 AM

East Hampton Rental Registry Law Trial Ends In Acquittal

Rental permit laws are ridiculous..Southampton take note. There is a difference between safety and stupidity. " Mar 27, 18 7:37 AM

North Sea, valid points EXCEPT there are and were codes on the books to deal with that...CO occupancy, noise laws, dark skies, quiet enjoyment. SH town has turned the Rental Permit Laws into a "gotcha, that deck is illegal" enterprise. Rental permit laws are nothing but a money grab in the name of safety. Its not to hard to tell if a home is overcrowded or used in a manor that it was not intended to be used for. Enforce the ordinances. That is what they are there for." Mar 28, 18 3:51 PM

Southampton Town Board Voices Support For Separate Trustee Taxing District

You have to like the phrase "should not cause any increase in taxes for residents"

Southampton Town Plans To Purchase The Bel-Aire Cove Motel In Hampton Bays For Redevelopment

It nice to be a wannabee businessman using taxpayer dollars and a rigged system to get the necessary permits. Town officials think that the role of government is to make money, and if they fail, so what? We have unlimited funds. What a joke. Meanwhile, you can't get leaves picked up or easily bring garbage to a recycling facility. Bad" Aug 15, 18 3:35 PM

Southampton Supervisor Considers Leaving Bel-Aire Cove Motel Property As 22-Room Motel

Here's a thought. How about stop making it so onerous that private investors walk away from Southampton Town. 5 years is normal for any development plan with ridiculous soft costs that many good ideas aren't being implemented. The CPI has looked like a nuclear waste site for years. Now SHT wants part of the action and go into competition with the private sector (I bet their permitting process would be much faster). This is all about job preservation within the Town. Regulations has created an area that no one wants to come to. Be careful what you wish for, now you have it. Good luck displacing the residents." UPDATE: Opponents Raise Concerns Over Southampton ZBA's Decision To Approve East Quogue Golf Course As Recreational Amenity

Once again the mentality that all developers are evil. Trade off, a public place to a private, members only facility. For a town that is so concerned with the "Public Benefit" they overplayed their hand. Could have been handled much better. This is what happens when the JV plays the Varsity." Nov 16, 18 1:34 PM

Closing Of Southampton Village Stores Raises Concern For Some

When you try to do business in a place that makes you jump through hoops just to open and couple that with runaway school taxes, this is what you get. Everyone is quick to say "greedy" landlords without knowing the tax burden that is continually put on commercial properties. Simple math. Look at the tax bill of some of these spots. When you have to come up with a couple a grand a month just to pay taxes, not to mention insurance and maintenance, it has to come from somewhere. The antiquated zoning laws (basically you need approvals for everything) have stopped new business from wanted to come into the village for a three month season." Jan 18, 19 8:01 AM

Westhampton Beach Village Board Considers Upgraded Septic System Requirements

Don't walk...RUN off this island! The maintenance and cost of these systems is another burden on homeowners. These pet projects because they sound good will drive people out. They are not proven. Don't complain that there is no affordable housing when you continue to mandate this sort of nonsense.

Southampton Town Board Once Again Delays Vote On Bel-Aire Cove Motel Purchase

Let me get this straight....the Town is so onerous on developers that no developer in their right mind will take a chance. Look at the CPI, the costs and length of time ridiculous. So, instead of making it easier for development and purchase by the private sector, Southampton Town wants tor get into business because maybe it will be easier for them to get it permitted and then try to flip it. Horrible abuse of power and an overreach by government." Mar 28, 19 2:48 PM

Southampton Town Board Approves Bel-Aire Motel Purchase, 4-1

This is the worst assault on Capitalism in the history of our country. Government Southampton created a process that no rational developer would touch. So then they go out and think they can do it better. Horrible. Will they follow there own rules of development? At what cost? With their ridiculous processes it should take 10 years (Look at CPI) before anything could get done. This is a bunch of governmental wannabees experimenting with taxpayer money. The CPF should be abolished if the funds are going to be used for real estate speculation. Horrible." Apr 10, 19 10:05 AM

Not really Glasshouses. Government should stay out of the private sector. Period. They already practice economic socialism (private ownership with governmental control) by virtue of certain (key word:certain) laws and processes to thwart entrepreneurship. So what do you call it when Southampton wants to flip property with taxpayer funds? Good Government? " Apr 10, 19 11:41 AM

The fact that anyone is endorsing this plan is frightening. All the Town is doing is encouraging property owners to let their property go to waste and maybe the Town will buy it. When 5 and 10 years in planning is "normal" developers stay away. This Town is anti business, anti growth. That's how this Motel turned into this in the first place. They all but killed the summer economy. Be careful all you NIMBY's, you might just get what you wish for." Apr 11, 19 7:09 AM
