Oddone sentencing postponed

Jan 27, 2010 11:31 AM

The date of sentencing for Anthony Oddone, the golf caddy convicted last month of killing a bouncer at a Southampton pub in August 2008, has been pushed back nearly two months at the request of his defense lawyer.

The sentencing was originally to have taken place in the Suffolk County Criminal Court in Riverhead on February 4 but was postponed until March 29 by Judge C. Randall Hinrichs after Mr. Oddone’s attorney, Sarita Kedia, asked for a delay.

A spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said the department did not know what the reasons for the defense’s request were.

Ms. Kedia did not return phone
calls seeking comment.

Mr. Oddone was convicted on December 14 of first degree manslaughter after a two-month trial and nearly nine days of deliberations by the jury. He killed Andrew Reister, an off-duty Suffolk County Department of Corrections officer from Hampton Bays who was moonlighting as a bouncer at the Southampton Publick House.

Mr. Oddone faces between six and 25 years in prison—a sentence to be determined by Judge Hinrichs. The District Attorney’s office has asked for the maximum sentence.

Ms. Kedia has said she plans to appeal the conviction.

Thanks for the update Michael.

Has a Notice of Appeal been filed? Does the time limit for this filing start when the conviction is announced, or when the sentencing takes place?

Have any new motions been filed, especially regarding juror misconduct?

Thanks again for your fine coverage of this matter.

Yep, good update. Hope he gets a long sentence.

Isn't the felonious ex Mayor Motz of Quogue due to be sentenced Friday? Will we get an update on that too?

Why should Anthony Oddone be given any special treatment, he did not give any to my friend. Anthony Oddone should be sentanced to the maximum sentance for killing Andrew Reister. Its Andrew Reisters family that are the victims, not Anthony Oddone. He is a killer plain and simple.
