Southampton School Board Hopefuls To Participate In 'Meet The Candidates' Night Thursday

May 4, 2016 3:42 PM

The five candidates seeking two open seats on the Southampton Board of Education will participate in a “Meet the Candidates” night, Thursday May 5, starting at 7 p.m., at the Southampton Intermediate School.

The event, which will be moderated by the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, will feature five newcomers: Donna Gagliardo, James McKenna, Jacqueline Robinson, Tracey Koszalka and Anastasia Gavalas.

They are seeking the two seats on the seven-member board now occupied by Jake Wilson and Nicholas Palumbo, both of whom have opted not to seek reelection.

On Thursday evening, the candidates will field questions from those in attendance, although the questions will be read by a moderator.

The election will take place on Tuesday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Southampton Intermediate School. Those casting ballots can also vote on the district’s proposed $67.7 million budget for 2016-17.

Let's have all of these candidates sign some kind of promise to live up to the highest standards - or they get no "golden parachute" if they have to resign under pressure as they're about to be accused or indicted for some despicable act!!!

These are unpaid BOE positions, that have a lot of responsibility.
No "golden parachutes". The paid administration positions are what you are thinking of.

Come on people.Get to the meeting and scrutinize these people. Take responsibility for who is elected to these boards, when you can, and don't leave it up to others. If you can't be bothered to get involved then don't complain when they pay out huge sums to superintendents you don't know why they fired. You want to put in board members that are transparent and mindful of how taxpayer moneys get spent.

Glad to see a full house at the Meet the Candidates Night tonight.
The questions were spot on and the audience got a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of the candidates and the school district!
