Kabot's DWI trial delayed once again

Jun 23, 2010 11:56 AM

RIVERHEAD—Former Southampton Town Supervisor Linda Kabot will have to wait a little longer to fight a misdemeanor DWI charge dating back to last September.

After several delays, Ms. Kabot was supposed to appear before Riverhead Town Justice Allen Smith at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 21. But upon arriving at the courthouse, she learned that Justice Smith was not at work that day and another judge, Justice Richards Ehlers, was filling in.

As a result, Ms. Kabot’s pre-trial hearing was delayed till July 9.

Ms. Kabot was arrested by Westhampton Beach Village Police last Labor Day and charged with DWI.

Linda already has her license back, just drop the charges and save the taxpayers money.

save the taxpayers money is a good thought. but her atty.."wrong-way Keahon" is still trying to win a case this century.
it's time to go SQUARE STRUDEL on these jokers.

Rocky, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I too am stunned that your comments have been allowed on this site. Linda Cabot, like her or hate her, has the guts to dedicate her life to public service. You, on the other hand, have no guts. The extent of your public service must be preaching from your barstool at Magics Pub. Drink up Rocky!

I do not think Linda deserves rocky's nasty comments. I think these comments should be removed by site moderator. I find them offensive.

Oh god! I didn't realize Jeff Conroy's (the young man that stabbed Marcelo Lucero) lawyer Keahon was the same Keahon defending Kabot!! I went to the murder trial and this guy just gives me the creeps....not a great asset in a defense attroney!

I like Linda and I wish her the best...but seriously....Keahon????
By LMVT (56), Shinnecock Indian Reservation on Jun 23, 10 9:16 PM
I just read Rocky's comment....you should be ashamed of yourself. I bet if this was a forum in-person you wouldn't publicly speak such trash....but it's pretty easy to be tough from your couch huh guy?
By LMVT (56), Shinnecock Indian Reservation on Jun 23, 10 9:18 PM
Rocky your comments are a disgraceful
Kabot had no control over this article being written. Who are you, a disgruntled SH police officer? You should watch your mouth and take some anger management sessions.
Also, these comments do not sound like they are coming from a female, you must be a guy. Rocky is mans name, better change that picture shown.
Read some of this guys past posts, he's a cop.
By reg rep (408), Southampton on Jun 23, 10 9:19 PM
I KNEW when this all started that Kabot did not want a fast trial . . . she wanted it to seem like she did before the election because she's so "innocent" and to put on a front for the voters, but now that she's lost the election she's in no hurry for a trial.

By the way, isn't it funny that Bill Keahon is making allegations of impropriety on the part of the arresting officer(s) but is also representing WHB officers accused of wrongdoing?
By HB90 (164), southampton on Jun 23, 10 11:16 PM
Wow- what did Rocky say? I must have missed it! Anyway, I think the whole thing is funny. How the courts just keep adjourning & adjourning court cases. Why do they do it? Its such a waste of time.

It hink Linda is a very smart lady and we havent heard the last from her
By john o (34), southampton on Jun 24, 10 1:17 PM
I think John O. is quite correct. Linda Kabot is a very smart lady we will be hearing about her in the future. Maybe, sooner than later.

LMVT: I know your passion for the Lucero case is genuine. However, what everyone needs to be reminded is that the accused are entitled to an adequate defense regardless of the heinous nature of the crimes. As a former police investigator, I wanted everyone I arrested to be convicted. Any cop or prosecutor would. However, since my advocacy for ...more

IPG - I'm not saying anything about the defense he provided. I'm just saying face-to-face this guy is creepy. If I was accused of a crime, I'm not sure this is the guy I would want representing me that's all. I'm not sure what his record is or how good of an attorney he is, but his mannerisms would turn me off if I was sitting on a jury with him as the defense attorney. I know I'm not the only one who has seen him in action that believes this...so I sort of wonder why other people don't?
By LMVT (56), Shinnecock Indian Reservation on Jun 27, 10 12:07 PM
Wait a minute, you get to pick your judge? What kind of garbage is that?? Time for a new venue..this doesnt pass the smell test.
By North Sea Citizen (568), North Sea on Jun 24, 10 8:46 PM
Judge Smith has been hearing this case till now. No one is "picking" a Judge. For whatever reason he was not present on Monday, Judge Ehlers was filling in.
There is no massive conspiracy here, it would have gone the same for you if it had been you with a traffic ticket.
By Terry (380), Southampton on Jun 25, 10 4:01 PM
IF she committed the crime, then she MUST be prosecuted, even if she DOES have her license back....the charges should not be dropped for anyone. As far as Conroy goes....HE KILLED A MAN!!...he got what he deserves.

If Linda was so smart she would have been home with her husband and kids instead of cruising Main Street at 1am in the morning.

Wait just a second! "cruising Main Street" suggests something that has never been suggested (until now, at least) much less alleged.

That's shameful on your part!
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 25, 10 3:24 PM
LAST CALL LINDA is full of it.
What happened to getting a fast trial?????
Why is this getting put off??
Maybe Linda is with her Aunt the SLUM LOARD?
I can not wait to see what a judge will do to her and do not think it would be the same for anyone else.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 25, 10 3:26 PM
What your saying is that there is no continuity between justices so then its unfair in in some way? It doesnt seem right does one judge offer something different from another? We are not talking about a major trial matter like a murder or something. This is why this doesnt ring right. Its a standard matter that should be heard by any of the justices presiding at the time. Thats what I dont get....
By North Sea Citizen (568), North Sea on Jun 25, 10 7:45 PM
What I am saying is that once a case is assigned to a Judge it stays with that Judge. When the case was last adjourned to this date Judge Smith was scheduled to sit. For whatever reason, he wasn't in on Monday, so the case is once again adjourned till he is sitting.
BTW is is "you're" not "your".
By Terry (380), Southampton on Jun 26, 10 10:44 AM
Frank-as I recall the story Linda was on her way home to Quogue from Center or East Moriches and decided to take a detour to see what was happening on Main Street, Westhampton Beach where she was stopped by the police. What story do you remember and how would you describe it.
By EastEnd68 (888), Westhampton on Jun 25, 10 10:06 PM
Don't play stupid, EE68... you know full well what the implications of "cruising Main Street" are, which is why YOU put it in quotation marks.

She was on Main Street is the only thing anyone can say with any degree of credibility.

Certainly, she should not have been there, or on any public thoroughfare given the fact that she refused a definitive sobriety test. Don't want to submit to one, stay off public streets.

But "cruising" is a disgraceful choice of words, and not ...more
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 26, 10 12:12 AM
A choice of words is not as disgraceful as not taking the test.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 29, 10 7:56 PM
I have to agree with Frank here, and to be honest, NONE of us will ever know exactly what happened that night.

The only things we do know is that Linda was at a family gathering, MAY have bent the law, and an accusedly corrupt "police department" made an arrest, while a passerby stood in conflict, and possibly conflagration for one of the parties involved.

Nothing like a spark to stoke the wildfire of speculation...
By Mr. Z (11847), North Sea on Jun 26, 10 2:44 AM
Lets not forget she would NOT take the test.
If she had done nothing wrong she would have and this would not be going on.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 26, 10 2:54 PM
None of this is her fault unless she was, in fact, driving drunk. And that fact is something we will never know because we weren't there. We only have the cops' word and hers. Who cares if she refused the test? It's her right.

SJD, reading your posts along the lines of "if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide," I wonder what you would have been like during the anti-communist witch hunts. Or, are you one of those people that doesn't believe in "taking the Fifth?"

When ...more
By BobbyH (44), Southampton/NYC on Jun 26, 10 11:39 PM
Nothing is her fault????
If she did nothing wrong she never would have been stopped.
So what "Bobby H" you are stating si that someone who takes the 5th has nothing to hide??? SURE
Linda always put blame on everyoine else and this is nothing new.
You must be another LAST CALL LINDA lover
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 27, 10 1:00 PM
I have no idea what is true and what is not in this case.
However, if Linda truly felt she was being set up, then I can understand her refusal of a breathalizer exam. Also it is her right to refuse. Therefore, we cannot "convict" someone because they did not take the test, regardless of the reason.
I'd like to hear more from the bystander arrested at the scene for interfering. I thought that was interesting.
By baywoman (165), southampton on Jun 27, 10 7:29 PM
I think the other person that you speak about was her husband when he showed up. There was no bystaander at the scene.
If Last Call Linda was heading straight home why did she end up on main street in Westhampton Beach???
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 27, 10 8:22 PM
sjd, it was most certainly NOT her husband. Did you just make that up?
By Terry (380), Southampton on Jun 27, 10 9:08 PM
A review of SJD's "outbursts" -- few are simple comments -- involving his village's government or police force (he hates both) should reveal that he doesn't care whether something is accurate or not, he just bangs away over and over with the same angry accusations.

Now I recall that there WAS a "bystander" discussed at the time of the arrest last September, but much like the trio of "tramps" in Dealey Plaza, the significance of that bystander has been dismissed -- unless Linda K.'s attorney ...more

Again I live here un-like you that comes here to shop and hang out at the fire dept. with some of you buddys.I do not make accusations as you state but I state faces of the town I live in. If you do some homework Frank he husband did have a problem that night at the police department.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 28, 10 5:55 PM
SJD: you can continue to name-call and dance, but you've again failed to answer the question. Where in any story or report is there any information about Lance Kabot such as you suggest?

It has nothing to do with me and the Fire Department. You keep saying it as a matter of fact, not opinion, so the burden is on you to back it up, and not tell me to "do my homework." This IS "my homework". Put up or shut up.
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 28, 10 6:47 PM
As always you know nothing.Time for you to go back and read about what happened and you may see that her husband was involed that night and the police did have a problem with him.So maybe it is time for you to "shut up"
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 29, 10 1:23 PM
You have made a statement which you have yet to be able to support. I don't have to "go back and read" anything. You said it, now back it up with a link, or back off and admit that you're just repeating garbage.

And you'll note that your name-calling and personal attacks aren't working out too well as a Moderator is deleting them -- and not because I complained. I'd just as soon have them left up so all those others you like to cite can see the poverty of your comments and lack of self-control.

Time ...more

"Frank" AGAIN you are wrong as always.Frank you have done PLENTY of name calling so please give it a break.Put brain in gear before you open you mouth and maybe it may help you, but I do not think so.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 29, 10 7:51 PM
Frank-the problems Lance caused at the Quogue police station were reported at the time. Lance was out of order and was threaten with arrest. Other readers seeem to have a better memory than you.
By EastEnd68 (888), Westhampton on Jun 29, 10 5:48 PM
This doesn't seem to be reported in the original story: http://www.27east.com/story_detail.cfm?id=232488. (The link came from the top of this page.)

I'm still attempting to figure out what import SJD is implying has anything to do with Mrs. Kabot's arrest -- and of course SJD, despite your humanitarian effort, STILL can't back up his assertions.

So no one has a link to that earth-shattering information?
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 29, 10 9:58 PM
Well Frank anything to say now????
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 29, 10 7:53 PM
Yes, why were you unable to back up your own claim?
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 29, 10 9:48 PM
"Frank "
As alwyas you will never admitt you say anything wrong. If you read Lance was threatened with arrest at Quogue police station.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 30, 10 12:08 PM
Again, you say something, but offer no substantiation -- provide the link to that information.

As I have stated, doesn't appear in the original story.

If I'm wrong, YOU show me and I'll admit it. All you've been doing is dancing for the past several days.

Put up and I'll shut up.
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 30, 10 12:29 PM
Like I have told you time and time again,do your homework before you open you mouth. Even if you look at other comments above you will see that I am not the only one that states Lance was threatened with arrest at the Quogue police station. Maybe instead of making you foolish comments you should do some reading, than be man enought to admitt your wrong, but I am sure that is something you will never do.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jun 30, 10 4:12 PM
But YOU said he was at the scene. He wasn't. You made it up. Period.
By Terry (380), Southampton on Jun 30, 10 8:25 PM
In other words, you have NOTHING.
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jun 30, 10 8:03 PM
"Frank" For the LAST time he was treatened with arrest.
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jul 1, 10 4:45 PM

i just read all of your nonsense. I have a suggestion for you, state your real name, since you like to make crap up. Also do yourself a favor and call the Quogue police department or westhampton beach police department TO GET THE FACTS. I just don't understand why you make things up. GET A LIFE AND STOP SPREADING RUMORS.

By lancek (3), quogue on Jul 2, 10 8:07 PM
"Well SJD, anything to say now????"

Thank you, Lance, for straightening this out.

SJD has been trying the Hitler BIG LIE technique of repeating it often enough and loudly enough and maybe people will start believing it.
By Frank Wheeler (1826), Northampton on Jul 3, 10 10:12 AM
So what your saying is that you were not treatened with arrest? You want us to take your word for this? Did not you make a call to a local radio station when LAST CALL LINDA was running for re-election and state you were someone else?????? So who makes up crap now LANCE??
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jul 3, 10 11:44 AM
Again you look so foolish and you going on the word of someone who lied to a rodio station when LAST CALL LINDA was running for re-election.Now you compair me to Hitler,How dare you . You just go along with anyone that you think will belive in all the crap you say and that adds up to nothing. Just like LANCE AND LAST CALL LINDA
By sjd (420), Westhampton Beach on Jul 3, 10 11:47 AM
Lance maybe you can also tell us how LAST CALL LINDA'S aunt the SLUM LOARD is doing.
