Jul 2, 2019 10:11 AM

A woman was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital on Monday morning after a falling tree struck her car while she was driving on Noyac Road, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph, two cars were struck by the falling tree at approximately 7:15 a.m. near Deerfield Road. She added that the woman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 and was trapped inside her vehicle. Emergency crews responded and had to cut her free from the truck.

She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for trauma-related injuries, Lt. Ralph said, noting that the driver was alert and speaking upon departure.

The driver of the second vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, was not injured.

Lt. Ralph said that the police were still investigating why the tree fell.

A portion of Noyac Road was closed until approximately 11 a.m. on Monday.

No additional information was immediately available.
